Liam's Family
Sep 11, 2021
Growing up, I always had a special place in my heart for kids with special needs. I helped in classrooms, worked different events and volunteered for various organizations. After my husband and I got married, he joined me in volunteering for Special Olympics, STARability, and other special needs organizations. Not too long after, we decided that we wanted to start our family through adoption.
About two years ago, we started our journey of adoption. After lots of research we came across NDSAN. We are forever grateful for NDSAN, and all the hard work Stephanie contributes. They are the reason we got connected with our now son, Liam. This has not been an easy journey for us. At one point we were even home-study approved for international adoption. Along came COVID-19 and changed everything. We said yes to every opportunity that came about. At no point did any situation get easier for us. Constantly we questioned “Why?”, “Is there something we should do differently?”. Stephanie was always so kind and assured us that our time will come. The time of year came around were we got notification it was time to update our home-study. My husband and I thought long and hard and decided that once our home study expired, we would take a break and revisit adoption when the time was right.
The day we received the phone call from Stephanie letting us know that we have been chosen is the same day that my husband and I tested positive for COVID-19 (we are vaccinated too!). That day I will always remember the whirlwind of emotions. After many phone calls and coordination, Liam’s doctor suggested waiting a few weeks, getting a negative test, then travel. This we used to our advantage. We quarantined, took care of ourselves, updated a few expiring documents, while online ordering all necessities for a newborn. In the meantime, our agency arranged for Liam to be in the care of an interim family until we were cleared for travel.
Liam turned 3 weeks when we were able to have him in our arms. I cannot imagine life without him. He brightens any room, puts a smile on everyone’s face, and is an absolute bundle of joy! He does have ASD & VSD, which we are monitoring and will likely have to have heart surgery. Overall Liam is doing well and keeping him on the right track of gaining weight and staying healthy!
Thank you to GLADS for the amazing help in relieving some of the financial stress of bringing our sweet boy home!

We were able to celebrate our finalization of adoption of our little Liam, Just in time for his 2nd birthday. He is such a joy and we can’t help but thank God that he is finally ours.
