Lucy's Family

Jan. 12, 2021

Scott and I were out on a date when we received a call from Stephanie at NDSAN. She was calling to tell us that there was a 3 month old baby girl with Down syndrome that had just been released from the NICU whose mother was looking to make an adoption placement for her. Stephanie continued to tell us whatever information she knew, including the fact that this baby girl was 100% Thai and that her mother did not speak any English. Thailand has and will always be a place and a culture that is so near and dear to my heart because I grew up in Thailand and learned to speak Thai and English at the same time when I was a toddler learning to talk. Learning that this baby girl was Thai felt incredibly special and serendipitous and allowed me to have an extraordinary connection to her mother. Six days later we brought our sweet daughter home. Together, with her mother, we named her, Lucy Varittha. Varittha is a Thai name that means "beyond excellent." Her mother chose it, and it really couldn't be any more perfect or fitting. Lucy was such an unexpected gift and she really is beyond excellent in every single sense. We are blessed beyond our wildest dreams with both our kids and will forever be grateful to the NDSAN and GLADS for playing such an integral role in how our family was formed. We are incredibly grateful for how supportive you have been with our son, Grant.....from assisting with his adoption to remembering his birthday every year. We feel humbled and so deeply grateful that GLADS is coming alongside us once AGAIN to help us be able to afford Lucy's adoption and we look forward to sharing both Grant and Lucy's growth and magic with you for years to come.
