Lewis W's Family
July 2019
When we decided to pursue adoption, we felt led to consider a baby with Down syndrome and were excited about the opportunity to grow our family in this way. By the time we were finished with our home study in December, we had been working on the process for several months and were excited to get on the registry with the National Down Syndrome Adoption Network. We got the call about Lewis a mere 5 days after being put on the registry and had a whirlwind of an experience in traveling out of state to meet our new son. We ended up spending the holidays in a hotel and waited for nearly three weeks before getting to come back home. Our church home jumped in with us and helped support us, but with the adoption, travel, and medical expenses we still had a financial strain. Opportunities like the GLADS grant allows us to continue in this journey with more confidence and comfort. We appreciate this gift and are grateful for organizations that advocate for this specific adoption effort.
Our family has enjoyed watching Lewis grow and learn and develop into such a joyful member of our family. His health has improved significantly since coming home. Watching Lewis’s brother and sisters love on him has been a blessing to both our family and friends in our community.
